The Granville Community Foundation announced this week the allocation of $71,000 in grants to 15 community organizations committed to education, the arts, historic preservation, and community building.
In addition to covering the cost of Granville’s Fourth of July Fireworks, providing lead sponsorship of the Granville Turkey Trot, and supporting the Wildwood Park construction, the Granville Community Foundation will provide funding for a variety of programs such as new technology at the Granville Public Library, equine therapy for Granville students, and Senior Center programming.

Kiwanis Club of Granville
Fireworks are integral to Granville’s Fourth of July Celebration and perhaps one of our community’s most anticipated and celebrated events of the year. Community collaboration is key to this beloved tradition, which involves scores of volunteers and the support of numerous local organizations. In that spirit, a grant from the Granville Community Foundation will cover the entire cost of the fireworks show, which will take place on July 6.
Granville Turkey Trot
Over the last 12 years, the Turkey Trot has united Granville around a single important issue: hunger. Hundreds of families volunteer, participate in, and support this event which raises funds for the Food Pantry Network of Licking County. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to provide lead sponsorship of this important family and community tradition.
Wildwood Park Playground
Construction for the Wildwood Park Playground Renovation is nearly underway. This important work, spearheaded by the Granville Recreation District, addresses the latest in safety requirements and ADA accessibility standards, while giving the playground an expected lifespan of 25 years or more. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to award the renovation its first installment in a multi-year grant.
Robbins Hunter Museum
The role and voice of women and truth in journalism today will be the focus of a roundtable discussion on April 19 funded by the Granville Community Foundation. One in a series of events organized by the Robbins Hunter Museum in honor of Victoria Woodhull, the roundtable will include speakers Mary Yost of the Columbus Dispatch, Julie Carr Smyth of the Associated Press, and Ann Fisher of WOSU Radio’s “All Sides with Ann Fisher.”
Granville Senior Center
The Granville Senior Center provides meals, companionship, and a wide variety of activities and learning opportunities that enrich the lives of our community’s older residents. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to support the Center with significant funding for classes, meals, and outreach.
Granville Federation for the Advancement of the Blues
A nationally recognized event, the HotLicks BluesFest draws thousands of festival goers to Granville for live music and the opportunity to take advantage of the village’s local stores and restaurants. The Granville Community Foundation is pleased to provide leadership support for the 18th annual festival to take place on September 1, 2018.
Granville Public Library
Research shows that availability of technology and the introduction of new devices and software are essential services of a public library. This year, with help from a Granville Community Foundation grant, the Granville Public Library will be adding two public iMac digital editing stations to complement the already existing technological offerings available for the library’s users.
PBJ Connections
PBJ Connections partners with local schools to provide A PONY, an equine assisted psycho-educational program that focuses on leadership, empowerment, positive self-image, and coping skills. PBJ will be working in collaboration with Granville Village Schools. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to support this innovative program.
Granville Historical Society
Archives and collections are two of the chief missions of the Granville Historical Society in its role as the “community’s collective memory.” This year, a Granville Community Foundation grant will be used to purchase archival boxes for storing Granville publications, historic ledgers, and other ephemera representing the history of the community. Funds will also cover conversion of VHS tapes of key Granville interviews and events.
Granville Parent Cooperative Preschool
The Granville Parent Cooperative wants to invite the entire Granville community to a special concert celebrating their 75th anniversary. The August concert will be funded by a grant from Granville Community Foundation and will feature musician and songwriter “Mr. Eric” Ahlteen.
Food Pantry Network of Licking County
The annual Martin Luther King Holiday Food Drive is a community action program that engages Granville citizens in a shared mission and exposes young people to the power and importance of service. Over the past six years, the Drive has provided the Food Pantry Network of Licking County with food and funds equivalent to more than 300 tons of food and rallied more than 1300 volunteers (many of them students) from across the community. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to provide a grant to offset the Food Drive’s marketing costs.
Licking County Family YMCA
The Granville Community Foundation is proud to provide support for All For One Camp, a genuine inclusive summer day camp for children with developmental disabilities. All For One Camp is unique in that children with physical, mental, or social disabilities are given the opportunity to attend and participate in an outdoor camp atmosphere along with peers without disabilities attending the Summer Day Camp. In the summer of 2017, twenty percent of All For One participants were from Granville.
Licking County Health Department
The Granville Community Foundation is proud to support the Third Grade Partners in Wellness Program, a school-based health education program to be offered through Granville Elementary School and Granville Christian Academy. In this program, lessons will be offered on a variety of topics, including general wellness, dental health, physical activity, nutrition, personal hygiene, and summer fun safety.
Central Ohio Youth Ballet
This year, COYB is collaborating with the Newark-Granville Youth Symphony for their April 22nd spring production at the Midland Theater. In addition, a special performance will be given at Kendal at Granville. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to support the Kendal performance.
Vintage Voices of Granville
The 75 singers of Vintage Voices perform up to twelve times each year throughout Granville. Reserved for singers 50 years or older, the group has been going strong since 1999. The Granville Community Foundation is proud to provide a grant for the purchase of sheet music.
